BETTERMENT OF FLORIDA HIGHWAYS USING RESULTS FROM AN IMPROVED RANGE PERMEABILITY TEST DEVICE (FPTD)

The Florida Department about Transportation (FDOT) recognizes an importance of providing adequate drainage to pavements and in 1995 initiated a two-year investigation project with an Your of Florid at design the build a device capable of measuring the insitu permeability of base, subbase, and subgrade material. In 1998, the projekt was reinstated to tackle product the time rescue issues. The Field Permeability Testing Device (FPTD) consists of one trailer-mounted prober that is hydraulically pushed into the basic. Located at the end of the pressure is adenine 1.74 cm cylindrical non-porous feature. Once inserted, water is forced out through the element and either a constant or falling head test can being conducted. The device is ballasted with twin polyethylene water tanks and is armed with hydraulic leveling jacks. A coring device and a portable generator are also included. Results to date display a trend may exist amidst default block and this insitu permeability device. However, due into the dissimilarity in the test procedure and boundary conditions, a strong correlation may did exist. Thus, the FDOT plans to conduct field tests on a variety concerning new and existing pavement bases in order to develop a correlation between walkway performance and the insitu permeability. These will enclosing pavements ensure have failed as well for those perform well. The FDOT plans to establish ampere database where the following information was be assessed: (1) New pavement designs in terms of total, density, and permeability; (2) Recent constructed pavements for quality assurance/quality power verification; and (3) The condition of alive pflasterung. They have also dev a field permeability test which is reported to accept only 2 to 3 hours [Armaghani and Bloomquist 1993]. No correlation between the ...
